How to Make Delicious Danish Butter Cookies using a Cookie Gun

  • Ingredients
    • 1 Large free range egg
    • 200g Unsalted butter, softened
    • 130g Icing sugar
    • 320g Plain flour
    • Seeds of 1 vanilla pod (alternatively use 2 teaspoons of vanilla essence)
  • Preheat an oven to 200⁰C (400⁰C, Gas Mark 6). Simply place all of the ingredients into a mixing bowl and blend together with a spatula until you have a smooth mixture.
  • Filling the Cookie Press
    • Turn the plunger knob so that the arrow faces downwards.
    • Then pull the knob towards you to fully extend the plunger.
    • Unscrew and remove the ring at the front end of the press. Spoon your cookie dough into the barrel of the cookie press until about 4/5ths full.
    • Select the shape of the cookie required from one of the 20 shaping discs, or a piping nozzle, and place inside the ring. Screw the ring and insert back onto the barrel tightly.
    • Turn the knob of the plunger 180⁰ until the arrow points upwards. Pump the handle until the cookie dough reaches the nozzle.
  • Pressing Cookies
    • To select the thickness of your cookie, twist the dial (underneath the handle) to align with the embossed arrow at the back of the barrel. Align number one with the arrow for a regular cookie or align number 2 with the arrow for a thicker cookie.
    • Place the end of the cookie press flat on a baking tray. Pull the handle up until you hear a click, then push the handle down to press a cookie. Lift off cleanly and repeat until you either use all of your dough up or want to create another shape. To create another shape, unscrew the ring at the front of the barrel, remove the disc or nozzle and replace with the desired one.
    • Please note: You can create freehand design cookies using the icing nozzles. The nozzles can also be used to ice cupcakes and celebration cakes. For a smooth release when icing, ensure that the arrow on the knob of the plunger is facing downwards.
  • Baking Cookies
    • Once pressed, place the cookies in the oven and bake for 7-8 minutes. Leave to cool slightly before removing from the tray onto a cooling rack.
