This Spanish-style fried dough is easy to make and makes a great party dessert. Enjoy with a warm chocolate sauce.

Ingredients and Method

Ingredients

  • For dough:
  • 250ml water
  • 110g unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 125g all purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • vegetable oil to fry in
  • For coating:
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp cinnamon

Method

  1. Add 250ml of water, 110g of butter and 2 tbsp of sugar to a large pan and bring to a boil.
  2. Next, add 125g of all-purpose flour to the mixture and mix until you form a dough. You shouldn't see any dry bits of flour by this point.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and pour the dough into a large, clean bowl. Let the dough cool for a few minutes. Once cooled, add a total of 3 eggs - mix well in between adding each egg. Mix until a smooth dough is formed.
  4. Transfer the dough into a piping bag and start to prepare the cinnamon sugar before frying. Mix together the 100g of sugar and 1-2 tbsp of cinnamon on a plate or in a bowl.
  5. Fill up a large, deep frying pan with vegetable oil about one-third full and turn up to medium heat. To check if the oil is hot enough, dip a wooden spoon in the oil and if it starts fizzing, your oil is ready.
  6. Carefully begin piping long strips of dough into the oil, using scissors to cut the dough. Once they've turned golden, take them out and coat them in the cinnamon sugar.
  7. Serve with chocolate sauce and enjoy.
